We hope this website will give you some idea of the house that we have bought in Hamilton. It has been a lot of hard work since we took it over at the end of July 2002 as the previous owner was not really terribly good at DIY. He seemed to have a tendency to stick things to the wall using 5 inch long screws leaving around an inch protruding and as only the first couple of inches of the screw was actually threaded they invariably proved extremely difficult to remove.
Still, the work has all now been done. The front garden has responded well to mowing and digging over and has been extensively altered from when we arrived with a few of the overgown trees removed, an extensive monoblock driveway set down and granite chippings laid under the willow tree and covering the top portion of the garden. We planted a number of roses which considerably enhanced the appearance of the garden especially when coupled with densly planted bedding plants. The back garden now has an 8'-0" high boarded fence erected in place of the existing larchlap affair. The lawn edges have been lifted so that the lawn is now flat and doesn't collapse into the border. The jungle of old done climbing plants at the back of the garden has been removed and a water feature and classical statue have been added. The lawn edge in the main is bound by log roll and for added texture the water feature is surounded by Yorkstone Gravel while the area below the trees at the top of the garden is laid with green coloured wood chippings. Additionally the full back patio has been laid with monoblock to match the front driveways. There is now an additional page added since the site was first created entitled "Updates Winter 2002/3". This page contains uptodate photos of things we have added since we put together this record - not just for your benefit but as a record for ourselves. Subsequently a further page has been added Updates Summer 2003 which continues the story. Garden lighting has also been added and photographs of that may be viewed at Garden Lighting Winter 2003. Inside the house the hall has been redecorated to our own taste and carpeted which is more our thing than the original rather cold laminate flooring.
Anyway, feel free to browse round the place - that is one reason why we prepared this site.
Yours,
John & Margaret
